Mayfield Pzazz Injured
Unfortunately last year one of Mayfield Farms stallions, Pzazz, injured himself while having a run in his paddock.
The injury was sustained in his stifle, where he tore the meniscus. After having an unsuccessful arthroscopy we decided to try stem cell replacement which has been quite successful in tendon injuries. Due to the complicated positioning of the tear the odds were not very high. Basically stem cells are taken from the horses sternum and left in a test tube to grow. Once they are ready they are injected into the area of the injury. Hopefully then they will attach themselves and develop and mend the tear.
It has almost been six months since this procedure has taken place, at the end of June Pzazz will be reexamined.
We hope that this procedure has been affective and Pzazz will be able to continue on with his already super successful career as a competition stallion.
We are all keeping our fingers crossed for Pzazz as it will be such a shame to lose a horse that had the talent and trainability to represent Australia . If this is unsuccessful then Pzazz will retire as a working stallion however he will still be available through frozen semen as a breeding stallion.
