Kerry Mack and Pzazz win DWTS
Australia's finest young dressage horses were on show for a huge crowd at Dressage With the Stars at Werribee Park Dec 13th. The evening arena program was a sell-out with many people turned away. The event has grown so much in recent years that state qualifying events are held to determine finalists. International-standard judges were in charge of all age classes. Dr Ulf Müller of Germany judged horse rideability.
The winner of the 6 year old class - Mayfield Pzazz went on to be the eventual Champion of Champions. This lovely young stallion was imported by Mary and Rob Hanna and purchased by Kerry Mack as a 2 year old. Kerry is to be commended for the excellent basic work she has put into the horse as he looks a dream to ride. He has three good paces and a very trainable temperament.
Ulf Müller gave him 9.5 for rideability which speaks volumes ...Dr Müller was very complimentary about the flying changes, commenting that they were of international standard, and was impressed with his training, done by Kerry. He commented that the horse was ready to compete at Prix St Georges, which was a surprise, given that he has only been lightly shown, and has only just been graded out of novice. The international judges Harry Boldt and Mariette Withhages awarded the very high scores of 82.3 and 81% for the two tests. This was the highest score awarded on the weekend.
The champion four-year-old, Fairbanks Pavarotti, five-year-old Ferrero Rocher and Kerry Mack's six-year-old Mayfield Pzazz entranced the crowd as they competed for the prestigious Champion of Champions honour, and the right to represent Australia in the World Championships in August. The crowd was enormously vocal in support of Mayfield Pzazz with foot stamping, yelling and clapping when asked to nominate the winner.
It will be a huge thrill and a great honour for Kerry to represent Australia at the World Young Horse Championship in Germany in her chosen sport with her stallion. It will be a challenge to make this happen however, given the other commitments she has, as a psychiatrist specialising in mothers and babies, and mother of 9 year old twins.
